Comet has found a very efficient way to place a cheese order without saying a single word. She is standing in the kitchen when mom asks what she wants, and instead of making a sound, the Golden Retriever gives a quick wink before darting her eyes toward the counter. That tiny glance is enough to send mom’s camera in the right direction, where a tray of cheese is sitting within view. In the clip shared by @peachycomet22, Comet keeps looking back and forth between mom and the cheese until there is absolutely no confusion about what she wants.
Golden Retriever uses eye contact to ask Mom for cheese from the kitchen counter
Comet does not need to walk over to the counter or try to grab anything. She simply stands there and waits for mom to figure it out. Mom asks, “Hey, what do you want?” Comet responds with a wink, then shifts her eyes toward the counter beside her. Mom follows the camera’s look, revealing a tray of cheese.
When the camera returns to Comet, she is looking up at the tray herself. There is really no mystery left. This dog asks for food with impressive patience, and mom quickly realizes what she is being told. “You want some cheese?” she asks, laughing as she shows the tray again. She picks up a piece and offers it to Comet, who takes it gratefully.
The clever dog communicates with eyes so clearly here that mom barely needs to ask a second question. Her caption, “She’s such a good communicator,” feels pretty accurate.
Viewers noticed the same thing. One person said, “She asked politely,” while another could not get over “That wink.” Someone else called her a “Food inspector,” which feels appropriate considering how carefully she kept checking the cheese. There is also a little debate over what to call Comet’s technique. One viewer described it as a special Golden skill known as the “look point.” Another joked that cheese is a serious matter.
It is surely a funny Golden Retriever moment, but it also shows how much dogs can communicate through simple body language. With the dog and cheese sitting in the same kitchen, Comet manages to make her request clear without making a fuss.
