Mango, a Golden Retriever’s hilarious Instagram video from @mangothegoldenrescue shows that she definitely does not know how to act nonchalant. So when she is in trouble, she acts like nothing happened, except her “unsuspecting” behavior does not look convincing enough and gives her away. In the video, Mango tries to sell her innocence so hard that she ends up looking even more guilty.

Golden Retriever tries not to look sus but can’t pull it off in funny video

The video begins with the on-screen caption, “Absolutely not acting suspicious,” as the Golden Retriever slides across the floor on her side. She keeps staring at her mom, like she hopes the ground might swallow her up before any questions begin.

Her mom does not let it go. She asks, “What did you do, Mango?” as Mango keeps squirming and scooting, doing a strange little crawl that looks like she is neither accepting her crime nor surrendering. Then, the camera cuts to the “crime scene” — bits of torn packaging scattered on the rug. Mom points it out and asks, “You do this?” and switches the video back to the Golden Retriever, with “Heck no!!” written on the screen, as if she has no idea what mom is talking about.

The video’s caption jokes, “Am not guilty!!!!” People in the comment section treated the whole thing like a courtroom trial. One viewer wrote, “Your honor, my client is innocent,” while another insisted, “Don’t know what you’re talking about, I have never seen a more innocent dog in my life.” A third viewer called Mango “Such a drama queen,” which feels accurate given the performance happening on that kitchen floor.

As for why dogs do this, they tend to read human tone and body language extremely well. When they sense an owner feels upset, some dogs show appeasement behaviors, such as rolling, creeping, avoiding eye contact, or acting extra soft, to calm the situation. It can look like guilt, but it is most likely them saying, “Please don’t be mad.” And Mango may never confess, but her side-crawl certainly charmed everyone.
