A toddler named Analua is testing out her scaring skills on her two Golden Retrievers, Maya and Maui, in an adorable video from Instagram user @mayaemaui. In the video, the little girl does her best to startle the Golden Retrievers. But instead of jumping or reacting, the dogs display incredible patience with their tiny human sibling — until one of them had to leave the spot.

In the video, the toddler playfully walks up to one of the two Golden Retrievers she plans to mess with. She gets too close to the dog’s face and tries to scare him with many “boos.” But the Golden Retriever does not so much as blink and simply lies on the floor, seemingly unbothered by the toddler suddenly invading his personal space. Realizing her first target is not giving her the dramatic reaction she wants, the toddler moves on to the second Golden.

She takes a considerably more direct approach with the next Golden Retriever. Analua bends down and presses her face against the dog’s head — and at some point, the dog decides he has had enough of the toddler’s mischief. Hence, he calmly stands up and walks away from the spot, leaving the toddler behind.

While the interaction looks adorable, it highlights excellent behavioral traits in dogs, especially in Golden Retrievers, who are known for their calm, tolerant demeanor. This makes them naturally patient with the erratic, unpredictable movements of young children.

Furthermore, the second dog choosing to stand up and leave is a de-escalation tactic. When a well-socialized dog feels overwhelmed or simply wants a break from a toddler‘s attention, they physically remove themselves from the room. It shows the dog possesses a steady temperament rather than reacting out of frustration.

The dog owners posted the video with a Portuguese caption to celebrate the growing family dynamic, writing that Analua makes their days more fun, even if the trio is a mess sometimes.
