In case you have ever watched two Golden Retriever siblings together and thought, “This must be so peaceful,” Penny and Boomer’s Instagram video from user @pennyandboomer might change your mind. The funny Instagram video shows Boomer focused on what the creator calls “Nibble mode: ON.” In that, he sets his sights on his sister, Penny. At first, it may look like gentle mouthing, but Boomer gets a little too excited and starts nibbling like his life depends on it.

In the video, Penny, probably used to Boomer’s antics, tries to move away from the fellow Golden Retriever while keeping her cool. Meanwhile, the owner also steps in, reaching toward Boomer and holding his jaw as if to redirect him — but Boomer does not take the hint and keeps going, totally committed to the nibble mission.

Penny gives off an older-sibling energy with her tolerant and slightly offended reaction, but she still tries to keep things from turning into a full wrestling match. But Boomer does not care. The video’s caption jokes, “Penny deserves hazard pay.”

Many viewers recognized the dynamic right away, with one joking, “That’s gotta be the younger sibling,” and another putting Boomer’s inner voice into words as they commented, “I nibble what’s mine.” Several others joked with comments like, “Nib nib nib,” and, “I won’t bite I’ll just nibble nibble.”

While it looks silly, this kind of nibbling often comes while dogs play. Many dogs do a gentle nibble with their front teeth during play or grooming, especially with dogs they feel bonded to. It can read like a part of their socialization process, involving affection and excitement. The only problem comes when one dog forgets to maintain boundaries, which seems to be Boomer’s specialty.

Penny, for her part, handles it like a pro. Boomer may have “Nibble mode” switched on, but Penny is trying her best to keep it cordial at home.
